Bright new day for January 1, 2016.
Instead of driving the 10pm to 2am crowd (last night Facebook group was alive with chatter of mace, fights in back seats and broken glass bottles) I am thankful to be the self proclaimed "morning after girl." So up at 7am - yes I am guilty of falling asleep before midnight *sigh* - I took my first passenger around 8ish back to his car.
The second passenger of the day took me to the other side of town. It was his first ever Uber ride so I filled him in on the whole system. I was thanked with free pizza coupons from a top franchise. One of which I gave to passenger number 3 who spent most of the trip talking to me about how great Uber was how taxi companies really need a reality check. After all the taxi stories I have heard, I think he's right.
Passenger 4 and I had in common calculus and the problem with higher math for people who are more in tuned with the written word. Both of us had been told that you don't always get to know "why" it is the way it is in math, sometimes you just have to accept that that's the way it is and just do the math LOL
When my phone pinged for the 5th time, it was one of my "regular" passengers who needed a ride to work. In the brief jaunt we talked about returning Christmas presents and he showed me his new "smart watch" that had Uber installed on it - very cool indeed!
After I took a short break it was time for round 2 with my new favorite Brit, fresh from the island 7 weeks ago. He made the comment when I first picked him up about a week ago that he loves our accents. Of course I thought HE had the accent LOL. He made sure to wish me a Happy New Year when he opened the car door, before even getting in the car :) Good news is he passed his driving test... but that won't stop him from using Uber, he loves to put back the brews with his new American friends.
I ended the day on a high note with another new regular who parties with friends on this side of town so it's always a nice fare to take him home. But more than that he's got a positive outlook on life and we have great conversations about family, friends, and silver linings.
It's a great start to the new year and I'm looking forward to all the people I will meet in 2016. Every ride I accept is an adventure. I always get an opportunity to connect, learn and grow.
