Yesterday I completed my first week of driving for Uber. It's been a lot of fun. Here's a recap:
- Met a guy (his first Uber ride) who was a pilot of small planes. This was my first uber passenger and he insisted on tipping me. Great way to start.
- I met an Australian who flew all the way here for an orangutan conference. drove him 3 days and he gave me a postcard of his orangs with a thank you.
- Met a guy from the UK who works here for a software company.
- Met a guy fresh out of college who got hired by a company here as an architect. Had to really think about what there is to do for someone young and new in town. Brave to move out here for a job.
- Met a girl who is newly single again, had to uproot completely after she quit her job, left her home town and got married... she's back and I told her she was very brave to start all over again.
- Met an older woman who lives in an assisted living facility and took her to her church. She said she goes every day because she just loves God that much. Later in the week I picked her up from her daily church visit and drove her home. She didn't remember me. Said a little prayer.
- And yesterday I spent time driving a couple from LA to a cousin's wedding, small world, it was the niece of KM, someone I know from being a cheer mom.
I don't drive the bar scene at night, don't want anyone to throw up in my car. But I happily take people to concerts etc. And the next morning, after the party, I pick people up and take them to their cars.
No I'm not going to get rich but it does help pay a few bills smile emoticon And it's the only job I've found that works around my daughter's hectic schedule, being a mom and trying to get this small business going. And by the way, they did a 7 year background check before I could be approved to drive. I was impressed.
