| Don't sit in the creepy seat during the full moon! |
What is the creepy seat? Glad you asked, it's the one directly behind your Uber driver. *Note: this only applies to single passengers, if you're in a group or with a friend, it's not creepy at all.
And why is it creepy? Primarily because we can't see you there..... I mean really, not in the rear view mirror, not by turning around either. What are you doing in that seat? We don't know. Are you preparing to do us harm? Are you taking out an illegal substance for ingesting? No clue.... it's just creepy!
In the last 24 hours I've had more people try to sit right behind me. And it has nothing to do with how or where I am picking up. I can be right outside their front door with the passenger side facing them yet they walk around to get in the creepy seat. I even had a 2 pax ride where one got in the front seat and the other . . . walked completely around the car to the creepy seat!
And I am not the only one who thinks that sitting behind the driver is creepy. I took an informal poll on one of the facebook driver groups. It does weird us out a bit to have a single rider sit directly behind the driver.
While we as drivers want passengers to be comfortable, sitting up front seems to be our preference only by a very slim margin. The main reasons cited: there's more leg room, we can chat easier.
When asked by passengers here's what I tell them. If you want to get the feeling of riding with a real person, have a conversation and make sure we're going the right direction - please sit up front! If you want to be left to make phone calls, text friends, read your facebook feed and be left alone, sit in the back passenger side seat.
For women, if you want to feel safer riding with an unknown male driver, sit in back passenger side. For women drivers, if you want to make sure you can keep an eye on what passenger is doing have them sit up front where you can see everything (hard to be surprised when you have the advantage of sight). All of this goes double at night.
No matter where you sit, hope you enjoy your ride - be sure to give your driver 5 stars :)
